You just need to apply. You’ll have to grant medical records from each doctor and/or hospital stay related to your reason for disability. You have to PROVE your disability in other words. You’ll probably have to go see one of their doctors as well. It takes about 4-6 months for them to make a choice so you need to go ahead and get it ongoing.
It may be that a better place to start is by informing your employer of your disability and question him to make accommodations for your shape up.
You may want to discuss your situation with a disability right lawyer
SS Disability … isn’t that a cruise ship for seniors? (Sorry, I just had to say it!)
I reckon you have a excellent case. My neighbor has a similar shape up and is on permanant disability. Check with the powers that be to see if you qualify, and excellent luck.
First of all, I reckon if your employer were to fire you, there may be grounds to sue them. Second, in order to get SS disability, you really cannot work at all. Now, your situation is only going to get worse. I am in the process of filing for SS disability and I have very terrible osteoarthritis in both knees and now it seems like it is in one or both of my hips. Applying for disability is very complex. I recommend that you contact File & File. You can do an Internet search and it will bring them up. They are attorneys that dedicate yourself to in SS disability. They will review your case. They payment you noting up front and nothing if you do not win disability. If you win, the get a percentage of the back money SS will owe you. They are nationwide and are supposed to be the best at what they do.
I just ongoing the process. You cant get it while you are working. You must have been let go due to the fact you cant do your job or any job for over five months. It then takes about six months to get it, they say they turn down everyone twice. It is a bunch of BS. Call them and find out how much or how modest you would get a month. It is pathetic.
I reckon you have to have a doctors approval to even contact a SS office. Beware tho, it usually takes like two years for them to choose. They will probably deny you a couple of times too. Im not trying to discourage you, just know that it is not simple to get SS and takes forever in most cases.
Call SS immediately.
Gather up any on paper medical info you have back to day one (everything) of your shape up and question you physician for a “summary crash” of your medical shape up and tell him that you are applying for disability. The hospital medical records part can grant a copy of you operation crash, history and physical exam and discharge summary…get all reports by writing and requesting them from the Medical Records part. Follow up surrounded by a week if they don’t respond…include you DOB and SS number in your request. SS will have you fill out forms and you will be sending back copies of your medical records…chronological order (last date on top). SS will send you to their doctors for evaluation. Turn around time from your first call is about 90 days. Include any letters of termination by your employers….follow their (SS)rules to the letter…call them if you have questions. Be accurate and truthful and remember disability is for the disabled and that sure does sound like you. Be aware that disability payments and not enough to survive on so I hope you are living at home. Excellent luck.
YES you do have grounds for SSI if what you SAY is TRUE.
my wife has the same RA and is currently awaiting her SSI incite date, the system is designed to deter you from collecting SSI before what they call “retirement”.
you work and have worked…..you have place into your social security.
I have Fleming and Greenwald on my claim and they are moving mine along very very well.***most lawyers will not get paid UNLESS you do….you donot win….they do not get paid!!
I am a 40 yr. ancient male and have spent 11 years in the auto wrecking and beleive me I have alot of ailments now because of it.
you see the signs about “prolonged breathing of gas vapors may cause cancer” at gas stations now?……they should have told me about 15 years ago!!!
it is a long hard road….but if you feel you deserve or need it…..do it.
excellent luck dear…..and stick with it…they will deny you the first 2 times then off to incite you goe, get a excellent lawyer to do most the work.
excellent luck.
Yes, but SS won’t even consider you as long as you’re working. I know. I was a mail carrier for nearly 20 yrs. I broke my ankle 6 yrs ago & now have osteoarthritis in it. So, I can’t carry mail or even be a clerk. The first time I applied the guy told me point blank that they won’t even consider it if I’m still working. Get as much documentation as you can. If you haven’t been to doctors, start going now! I had to get Postal Disability first & then I was approved for SS. Excellent luck. Let me know if I can help.
Yes you have a case for disability. Especially if you are fired from your job because of your disability. It might take a while to get it though because they have a habit of rejecting applications that don’t fit into specific criteria. Once your application is denied, you can appeal it and get approved by a judge. The whole process can take up to 18 months from when you first file your application. The application process and first denial can take up to 6 months and the appeal can take up to 12 months from the denial. I am about halfway through this process right now. You might be eligible for Supplimental Security Income while you are waiting on the choice, but that is only about $600 per month. (I reckon) You can apply for part 8 housing help, food stamps and medicaid to help you out.
Excellent Luck.
I had a similar situation, I felt i could no longer work due to my emphysema, I quit my job in June 05 applied for ssd the same month, was denied in August. I filed an appeal in Oct. 05 got a lawyer and was finally award SS Disability in January 06. Its kind of a lot of bs and most people i know, unless you have cancer, you will be denied the first time, and will probably need an attorney that handles these kind of cases. It will take awhile but i say you should go for it. eventually you will get it GOOD LUCK
I am on SSD for myself for similar reasons. You need to be out of work and at first you go on sickness benifits then if you cannot work afer 6-12 months they will sent you to their own Dr and have you assest. To get on Sickness Benifits you need to get forms signed by you local Dr or Specialist. The pay is very modest. After being use to being paid a full wage it may be a bit of a shock.
May be you could talk to your boss and see about working Part time and see how your body handles that. Or maybe you can do work that at times allows you to go around abit away from sitting all day.
You do seem to have grounds to go on a Pension reckon hard though it’s not an simple life to live.
it all depends on what state of the country your in if your in Illinois we are at the bottom of the food chain. we get what other people don’t want, like we don’t get excellent jobs we get what the cocoa leaf eaters don’t want. i got both kinds of arthritis and hip replacements and it’s still not death but watching that life from the sidelines is so wasteful, i seldom eat because I’m so upset over being paid the shaft everywhere because once you can’t work the rest of the world looks like there coming in for the feast, very nasty limitations, try to get the company to get help and stay on as long as you can. civil liberties are being all used up by the border invaders too, worst part of the fight is i’m deaf too, so try as you can to get help before you disappear in to early retirement cause once your gone, your really gone. they swipe you under the carpet and your history quick now
