    They get arthritis from use and age, just like the rest of us. That’s just osteoarthritis; it happens. And of course, some get rheumatoid arthritis, which is a disorder of the immune system; that’s mostly genetic, and it happens, too.

    Arthritis is a puffiness of the cartilage in the joints of the hand. An -itis is a puffiness of cartilage, or cartilage related. Repeated chopping promotes arthritis, which is a terrible thing. Karate guys should keep their chopping material with their hands to a minimum to avoid future inflammations of arthritis.
