Oh аחԁ wһаt аrе ѕοmе fun things tο ԁο јυѕt walking around (natural horsemanship) wουƖԁ һе bе ok bareback?
With the right care, lots of longeing walking, bareback, masages(seriously)it builds a relationship, mascle growth, ligiment dammage care, and trust. Use DMSO place it on his knee once a day for about a week with no exercise, then keep putting it on for another week but only longeing, then another week with bareback walking. Be carefull and absolutely no jumps. O and give him two to three scoops of BUTE (horse asprin)each day available from your vet. GOOD LUCK!!!
Arthritis can range from minor inflammatory changes in a joint to complete cartilage destruction and bone spurs on the joint surfaces. The owner would need xrays and maybe ultrasound exams performed to establish how advanced the arthritis is, and what limitations there are. If the bone ends at the joints cannot glide smoothly over one another, then no antiinflammatory medication is going to change that, and medicating the horse to mask pain to allow him to be ridden would just further the hurt to the joint.
Liniments don’t do anything to improve conditions surrounded by the joints but are soothing and will feel excellent. Polos and boots won’t do anything to help arthritic joints any.
As a rule, keeping the joints moving with exercise is beneficial, since it improves synovial fluid secretion and perfusion of joint tissues with nutrients and with waste removal. But riding adds weight that stresses the joints and may or may not be beneficial, depending on whether there are significant bone and cartilage changes already present on joint surfaces.
For now, just walk him around and if he comes up sore, quit riding. Unless a vet advises you if not, this is all you should do with this horse.
No one here can answer your questions, since only a vet who has performed diagnostics on the joint can know the answers.
I would get the vet to check him out to see if he is sound enough to trot. That’s really your best bet, and the vet can also tell you what supplements that would work the best (ie. glucose).
