How much fish oil does my 70# Golden need? She has severe arthritis in one back leg. What about vitamin E?

Fish oil is an antiinflammatory but there are other things to do as well. A grain free diet is a must, grains are very inflammatory themselves. So grain free diet, and at least 2 capsules of fish oil. (start with two go up to 4 if your dog tolerates that well) Arthritis is a chronic shape up that worsens with time so daily exercise and weight bearing activity helps. If she is sore in the morning, get her up and going first thing. Find out if your vet can recommend a excellent canine acupuncturist or chiropractor, that helps too. Haven’t really heard much about Vit E for this shape up.

I assume you are already charitable her Glucosamine & MSM? Both regularly make a huge difference to an arthritic dog. I would give her 2 sardines packed in water each day and one Vitamin E 400 IU capsule. THe sardines are a excellent source of natural fish oil and more straightforwardly assimilated than a tablet.

My senior dogs are the same size as yours. Each gets the following TWICE daily: 1000mg fish oil,
315mg conservational tea extract capsule, 200mg turmeric, 750mg glucosamine/750 mg MSM (in the form of 1 Schiff’s caplet, one Wobenzym-N tablet. Starting this at age 7 has not permitted my greyhounds from developing much arthritis.

I have a dog who was not on this regimen until age 12, who already has lumbosacral stenosis and also gets 75 mg. carprofen daily, and 50 mg Tramadol twice daily.

Some other supplements to consider are CoQ10, sam-E, and Vitamin E.
