buy calcium chewable pills, or their is this modest fudge square that is very excellent and it is full a calcium.

  • justme:

Conservational leafy vegetables such as kale are as excellent as or better than milk as calcium sources. Other excellent sources include: White/Wholemeal bread, Taco Shells, Oats, Soyabeans, Tofu, Almonds, Brazil Nuts, Pistachios, Sunflower Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Flax Seed, Carob, Carrots, Cabbage, Garlic, Parsley, Spirulina, Chives, Seaweed, Cauliflower, Okra, Cassava, Figs, Papaya, Rhubarb, Molasses, tap water…
High protein diets appear to lead to increased calcium losses. Calcium requirements for those on lower protein, plant-based diets are said to be below the typical recommendations.
The [American] National Research Council itself (which set the RDA values in the first place), acknowledges that people have been able to maintain calcium balance on intakes of as low as 200 – 400 gm/day. They not compulsory the 800 mg/day because of the excessively HIGH PROTEIN diet of most Americans (see NRC, RECOMMENDED DIETARY ALLOWANCES, 9TH ed., 1980, p. 120-29)

    Calcium supplements
Orange juice (most brands have a calcium-fortified one)

  • hajer:

calcium chewables at any local pile like cvs

is it really worth it to you to hurt your body? buy some organic milk at whole foods. their items are cruelty free, and organic. slightly expensive, but a lot better than hurting yourself.

  • notbad4aninja:

I’m not vegan but i’m lactose intolerant and I take these calcium supplements called Viactiv, they’re like modest chocolates but i’m not sure if they’re vegan-friendly. Also I drink orange juice that’s infused with calcium.

Why don’t you just drink milk! wow its not like it hurts the cow, it really makes the cow feel better. If we didn’t milk cows they would be in sooo much pain. This is a serious answer. I mean yeah i can know why you don’t eat meat because you have to kill the cow BUT milk is excellent for you and it does not harm the cow at all, its like if you had to pee and you couldn’t unless someone helped get it out of you, you would be in so much pain.

I don’t always like what the doctor has to say , but you should follow his advice, i am sure it would give your mom peace of mind. Most grocery stores have organic milk in the half gallon size. Fresh pure carrot juice and conservational leafy veggies are high in calcium and vitamins. Served ice cold carrot juice is as refreshing as a cold schooner of milk.

  • Celtic Tejas:

All the dark conservational leafy Veggies are very high in Calcuim. In fact MUCH higher than dairy products.
Swiss Chard, Kale, Spinach, Romaine lettuce.

Here’s a fantastic article by Dr. John McDougal on this subject. In fact if you want to be a really informed “Veggie” sign up for this free newsletter.

  • OhxSnap:

Buy calcium pills or liquid medicine. It gives you the dialy source of calcium any way. The pills are kind of huge, but not huge enough to where you can’t swallow them. I’m vegan too, I use these pills.

There are many simple ways to get calcium. The best I reckon is in soy milk with added calcium But, there are also calcium tablets and many other other forms of straight calcium.A balanced vegan diet has all the vitamins and minerals you need. But just like non vegetarians, we regularly dont eat a balanced diet. But, vegetarians are regularly more consiuos of their diet. Sea vegetables are a fantastic source of minerals.Different ones control different things. There is plenty of organic dairy about but none is cruelty free and it all has draw backs for your health. How would you feel if you were forced into pregnancy and then when your baby was born it was taken away, just so someone could get your milk?
Dairy is terrible for your liver. It does control certain vitamins and minerals but they are available elsewhere. Vit B12 is one to watch as a vegan. Very terrible if you become deficient but there is modest known about B12. If you live where the sunlight is low or you never go outdoors, take a Vit D suplement as well. maybee also in the soy milk. This lets your body absorb the calcium.

-Calcium choices for those who do not consume milk products include
-Calcium fortified juices, cereals, breads, soy beverages, or rice beverages
-Canned fish (sardines, salmon with bones)!! (not for you)!!soybeans and other soy products (soy-based beverages, soy yogurt, tempeh), some other dried beans, and some leafy greens (collard and turnip greens, kale, bok choy). The quantity of calcium that can be absorbed from these foods varies

  • Adela:

Dear sport_gurl, this is your lucky day since you got the best answers by Justme, Tom Barrister, degarry, and Celtic Tejas…with fantastic links and none less than Dr. John McDougall, a highly respected physician specializing in nutrition!!! Please stay away from calcium supplements and other medicines, apart from for vitamin D (to help absorb properly the calcium already in your body) only if you don’t get any sun for at least 15 minutes on any part of your body. Vegan and vegetarian food has everything your body needs. Remember, when Nature (or God if you prefer) produced vegetarian animals, of which the humans are part, she also produced right along, the PROPER food to keep her creation strong and healthful. So you’ll be smart to get your calcium from the food. :o ) If I may also add a few links which you can read at your leisure:

Truth About Proteins (I give you this as too much protein affects adversely keeping the calcium from leaving our body): http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/protein.html

As to Mr. Leather3…sir, dairy cows suffer even MORE than beef cows, both suffer each second of their miserable existence and then – to brutal slaughter… but dairy cows stay much longer being agonizingly distressed until they collapse. Give yourself the gift of knowledge and read this link, and the ones I and the others here offered the asker: ;o) See these “hapy” cows and their babies:

seaweeds such as kelp, wakame and hijiki; nuts and seeds (like almonds and sesame); blackstrap molasses; beans; oranges; amaranth; collard greens; okra; rutabaga; broccoli; dandelion leaves; kale; sardines; and fortified products such as orange juice and soy milk. The calcium content of most foods can be establish in the USDA National Nutrient Database.

As far as I know, Clover Stornetta is relatively very much cruelty-free of a dairy type, and def. organic. You can read more about how they treat their cows here:
    http://cloverstornetta.com/faq.html

And just about each milk I have seen, even at Albertsons, puts a sticker saying that the cows used were not treated with rBST. I’d highly recommend organic, due to no antibiotics, hormones or pesticides and the cows are supposed to get to roam about and munch in fresh organic pastures. Unfortunately, just because something is organic doesn’t mean that the cows are treated well, so if you need milk I’d stick with Clover Stornetta. Try organic yogurt too, that should be exceptional for calcium. If you’re worried you won’t like the taste of milk, you can try organic chocolate milk. I’m personally not a fan of milk for myself (I stopped drinking it 2-3 years ago) but I’m sure that will be an effective way to get the calcium you need. Don’t know if you can get enough from all those conservational vegetables.

My parents have always been very serious and staunch believers in the nutritional regard of milk, so I would have never been able to go vegan when a teenager at home. I hope you are intake healthily while so young and bones are still growing. In stipulations of the vegan material, soy milk provides excellent calcium, albeit in the form of calcium carbonate, and maybe soy yogurt would also help. You can always have those Clif Builder Bars, they’re vegan and grant lots of nutrients for a growing, athletic body. And I don’t reckon a vegan diet is necessarily unhealthy, in fact I’m pretty much on a vegan diet for myself and feel healthful most of the time.

I just sent someone my RAVE diet DVD (www.ravediet.com) and he quit all animal foods. His arthritis cured surrounded by a week and he is out doing yard work again for the first time in 6 years. I swear this is a first person tale, the guy is a lawyer in his 50′s and is delighted as he was expecting to be in a wheelchair in a few years. It turns out that his arthritis pain was caused by dairy allergy. Dairy is hidden in many things including medicine in tablet form (lactose binders).
Broccoli has bio-available calcium. Most dark leafy greens do. Also, sesame seeds and tahini (which is ground sesame seeds) have calcium. Some seaweeds have it. All the dairy hoopla is amusing considering that people aren’t consuming milk in China and Japan and their bones aren’t collapsing. Try looking at the products at http://www.veganessentials.com for a calcium supplement and also read the diet information at http://www.veganoutreach.org.
The more I read the more I know that it’s not just the calcium that’s vital, it won’t be assimilated without vitamin D.
Hey, why don’t you just drink the calcium fortified orange juice?? That’s what I feed my son. Also calcium fortified soy or rice milk (to mix with your protein powder?) Shake the container for a long time, the added calcium settles to the bottom and needs to be mixed back in.
